Hi
This year’s Housatonic clean up went well.  Nineteen of our members and friends
participated including four scouts from our Venture Crew plus one of their adult
leaders. A pickup truck of garbage was collected and new signs were posted. After
a morning of work we enjoyed a delicious cookout provided by our friends, the
Long Island Fly Fishers.  The support of our efforts on the river by the Long Island
Fly Fishers is greatly appreciated.
The weather was great so most of us went fishing.  We took the kids to Housatonic
Outfitters who generously loaned the scouts waders and boots for the weekend.
Russ Bevans and Bill Goben spent the afternoon and the next morning teaching and
fishing with the boys who camped out at the campground.  I saw the scouts at our
meeting three days later. They wanted to know when we would go out again.  The
meeting happened to be the Troop’s annual planning meeting.  They included our
clean up as their May 2009 camp out.
On a related issue, we have rods and reels for the kids but no waders and boots.  If
any of you have old but still serviceable waders and or boots that you no longer
use, please consider donating them to our Venture Crew.  The scouts will put them
to good use.  Please contact Russ Bevans, Bill Goben or me if you wish to donate.
I hope to see you all at our June meeting on the river.
Tight lines
Fred
