January 2009 Fly of the Month – The Dr. Mike [Paul Dinice]

Dr._Mike_007-600x510

Hook: Daiichi 1120 Sizes 12 to 16 Thread: Black, Brown or Olive
Bead: Gold or copper.
Legs: Two turns of partridge, grouse, or speckled hen hackle.
Body: Cream, olive or chartreuse brite blend, super brite or ice dub, spun onto a dubbing loop.
Head: Peacock Herl.

This fly was originally used as a steelhead fly for the streams of Lake Erie. Although it represents a
caddis, the “bright” dubbing has a lot of attractor qualities to it. I’ve done really well with this on the
streams in Roscoe NY and on the Hous. Try it in cream on the Farmington. This is a very easy
pattern to tie and very productive.
