Dropper Hopper

Hook: Mustad 94831, or equivalent in sizes 6-14
Tail: White kip tail fibers
Body: Chenille or sparkle chenille, in yellow or chartreuse
Legs: Round barred rubber legs
Wing: Course deer hair

Although not as popular as they are out west, hoppers can be a very effective pattern here in the east. When looking for a hopper that I could tie small and fast, I came across this one. It’s a “Madam X” bullet head style
fly that floats like a cork. I also like to use it as my head fly with a dropper behind it in late summer. Toss it close to grassy embankments and under over hanging trees. The takes are very intense. Want to imitate a
cricket? Tie it in all black.
