FUBAH Fly

Hook: Wide gape stinger style hook, Daiichi 2720, Size #2 for this example
Thread: GX2 (Gel-spun)
Tail: Ostrich herl
Body: Arctic Fox
Collar: Cross-cut zonker strips, sili-legs
Head: Deer hair, spun and clipped to shape

The FUBAH fly is a design that combines elements of different patterns I prefer when pursuing warm water species. I owe most of my inspiration to Mr. Steve Kantner, a Florida guide and author, who taught me the benefit of these materials while fishing for Black Bass and Snook in the Glades. The
FUBAH pushes water with its head, but also breathes due to the fur body.

The FUBAH has proven itself effective in size #6 for small mouth bass below the Stevenson Dam, up to #4/0 for Stripers. For the latter, I’ve fished it on a full sinking line with very memorable results.

The fly looks terrific in a variety of colors, so feel free to experiment. Olive is also a great choice for smallmouth, and I’ve done well with white, blue, grey and darker colors for saltwater species. I usually include flash materials, but this chartreuse version seemed bright enough to wake up the neighbors without it.

**This pattern was submitted by new HFFA member Joshua Fine. Joshua is an excellent fly tier and fishes for just about every species of fish worth catching here in CT.
