A while back my buddy Ray bought these hooks upon the advice from a fly shop. He gave me a few and we tied up some different midge patterns. They all worked like a charm. This is one of the best. I believe the key is the red hook. This fly is super easy to tie, and an excellent producer. It’s also small enough to use as a dropper behind a dry fly. I also fish it behind nymphs. If you don’t have any midge patterns in your box, sure you have this one. I know some of you out there don’t fish or tie small flies, but this is a really really simple pattern and easy to fish. The key to tying it is to sparsely dub your thread.
